The flights have 1 stop each way, in Toronto.
Thunder Bay to Osaka / Kyoto is also available for about $20 more.
Dates as far away as May 2021 are available.
You can also find Multi-City flights, where you fly into Tokyo, and then fly home from, say, Osaka, and keep the price in the $700s roundtrip.
It doesn't have to be Osaka that you return from, it's worth trying all airports in Japan at the moment. Some of the cheapest combinations are Tokyo and... Sapporo, Fukuoka, Nagoya, or Kobe.
